My name is Ricardo del Rosal. I’ve been dealing with domains for a while but I can’t say I make a living from this business yet. Nevertheless I can foresee an incredible opportunity in developing exact keyword domains (not necessarily .com).
I registered many English Exact Keywords .com.ar domain names. Although .com.ar is not likely to be considered by domain investors I sold vc.com.ar for $2,700 and I got some outstanding earnings from some of my parked domains just because they feature high PPC (Pay Per Click) Exact Keyword names.

An example: Student Loans

If you take for example [student loans] and check this keyword using Google you get this results:

If you park a domain like studentloans.com.ar with Google Adsense For Domains, you get ads with an incredible high PPC. But you don’t get natural traffic (although some people navigate to studentloans.com page by writing that URL there’s no chance they reach studentloans.com.ar that way!). Unless you develop backlinks to the domain in high PR sites. In that case you could probably get 100$+/month in Adsense revenues. And that would mean you have a domain valued in the 2K-5K range!
I tried to sell studentloans.com.ar on eBay and the best bid I could get was 90$. That was discouraging but gave me an idea: Domain Name Shares. If I could get 100 partners promoting this domain name that should be enough to get the initial traffic to start a “chain reaction”. Like an atomic explosion requires a “critical mass”  a domain needs an initial traffic boost to start generating a steady income from ads.

Why Am I Giving Away Domain Shares for Free?

I’m looking for people interested in domain business that may help me to develop the Domain Share Trading project. I’m not asking for register fees, contributions or any kind of payment. There’s no catch. I would like you to know this project and gain your confidence.
I want to start as soon as possible. I have a lot of potentially valuable domains idle. If they don’t get traffic their value is zero. So ,why not give away some of them for free? What do I ask for?

If you register for a free share I will personally contact you as soon as possible to arrange the details. But I don’t want to lose my time and yours. I will request you to meet at least these conditions:

• US, CA or UK resident (not exclusive, contact me)
• You must be of legal age
• You must own at least one domain
• You must be willing to participate

Why US resident? Because the highest PPC you can get is from US clicks (the same ads clicked in Argentina are likely to generate less than 10% revenue). Why at least one domain? Because I need people related to the domain business and I can check your personal contact information against the whois database.

What do you get?

If you qualify you get a share (a 10$ nominal value) on one of my domains just for registering. And you can get many more by promoting this project according to my terms and conditions. You can keep this share at no cost and get payed monthly to your Paypal account a proportional share of the domain revenues. If any investor wants to buy the domain he would have to pay al least 11$ for each share. That’s the deal. Nothing to lose.

 A domain name is worth exactly as much as a buyer is willing to pay for it.  Although self-called experts state that “An expert evaluation of a domain name’s value is critical intelligence for domain buyers and sellers looking to determine a fair market price” domain appraisal is not an exact science. A domain reseller might be successful but only if he learns to spot the rare opportunities where he can buy for a low price and sell in a short time making a difference. It’s a risky business indeed and it’s not for everyone.

Take these Numbers and Facts from SEDO.COM (February 2008):

• Domain transaction volume per month: > $6 million
• Number of members: 690,000
• Number of domains in our database: 11,500,000
• Number of parked domains: 3,200,000
• Number of domains sold per month: > 1,900

They are telling you that in a year they sell roughly 2,000*12=24,000 domains from a total of 11,500,000. That’s only a 0,2%.

So what happens to the remaining 99.8%? They must be renewed or they are dropped. Nobody adds a domain to SEDO’s database without expecting to sell it before having to pay renewal fees, but only 2 out of 1000 succeed. Their declared monthly transaction volume is >6M, that means an average of 6,000,000/1,900=3,157$/domain. Really attractive end price, but only for the lucky 0,2% sellers…

Those who can’t sell will lose an average of 110M/year in renewal fees. Needles to say that someone struggling to sell may pay for their “expert appraisals” and their “featured places” and spend an extra 50-100$ in his valuable domain.

This is a highly speculative market. There are few winners and many, many losers. An average Joe will certainly belong to the 99,8% losers group. He has better chances to win at the casino compared to investing in this marketplace.

Domain Parking

If you park a domain you get a page full of ads. They pay you for surfers clicking these ads and you may get some money. But they surely get much more than you. SEDO pays 0,03-0,05$/click. A domain, on average, gets less than 3 clicks a month because traffic is restricted to potential buyers (random natural traffic is meaningless). So you might expect to cover 1-2$ of the 10$ renewal fee. But there are better parking offers. Godaddy pays 60-80% of the real PPC revenue. If you want higher percentages you must pay them a monthly fee. You end up loosing more than without parking. A website owner with a Google Adsense for Domains parking may get better results, but only if the domain name features high average PPC Exact Keywords and there is enough traffic (and Google decides that he is playing by their ever changing rules and pays him).

A New Concept

Domain Share Trading is a new concept for domain investors. A domain is subdivided into 100 shares. Investors buy one or more shares from one or more domains. They earn a monthly revenue proportional to the actual advertising revenues generated by the shares of the domains they invest into. They can sell their shares for a lower price at any moment. But in case a buyer offers more than the last payed price they have to sell or update their investment to the new best price. An investor may decide to buy a domain name and have it transferred. In this case he must pay a total price equal to the sum of each share’s actual price multiplied by a minimum transaction profit factor (which includes our commission).

There’s no annual renewal cost of the domain names we manage.  We publish Adsense earnings data for each domain daily and we pay each investor monthly for his proportional shared revenues. A simple business model. A new concept.
